Unwind on one of Cornwall’s most serene beaches
White hawthorn blossom borders the soft, white sand of Porthcothan Bay, which is hugged by the green coast path on the left and right. A gentle walk across the wave-ridged sand of the cove at low tide leads you to Trescore Islands, a rugged scattering of sea stacks creating a turquoise lagoon that turns crystal clear in the sunlight.
Take a dip in icy-cool water, paddle in foamy shores, or simply sit and listen to the gentle rustle of the beach grass. However you want to spend your beach day, Porthcothan invites you to do it in the utmost serenity.
Situated on the north coast between Padstow and Watergate Bay, this small village is a great base for the array of coastal walks that start from its shores. The stretch of coastline between Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps takes you through the rugged, untouched beauty of Cornwall, showcasing panoramas and endless horizons alongside the occasional Cornish chough. We doubt you’ll want to leave this hidden gem, but if you do, you’ll find the popular beach of Constantine Bay and the nearby village of St Merryn within 2.5 miles.
