Discover Porth Beach, nestled along the coast from Watergate Bay

When children draw a seaside scene, they draw Porth. Streams, rock pools, and caves beg to be explored, whilst soft stretches of sand provide ample terrain for sandcastle building and sand fairy-making. Families, adventurers, and explorers of all ages will lose hour after happy hour on holidays in Porth.

A narrow wooden footbridge leads to Porth Island, a headland full of history. Watch in awe at mid tide, particularly on windy days, as the blowhole shoots rainbow sprays of water. Embrace the theatre of Porth Island at any time of day or all year round – just wrap up warm and bring a camera to capture dramatic sunrises and storms. Back down on the beach, melted strawberry ice cream drips down the sides of cones, and sizzling tapas is served at Porth’s beachside eateries.

Once you’ve soaked up the Porth scene, try heading towards Newquay's bays, up the coast path to Whipsiderry and Watergate Bay, or towards the rolling cliffs of Mawgan Porth and Bedruthan Steps.

The details

Food and drink

Self-catering holidays in Porth call for evenings sampling delicious local cuisine. Wash hearty fish and chips down with a cold Cornish ale at The Mermaid Inn, serving home-cooked pub grub right on the sand. Mop up hummus with pitta, eyes on the sunset, at Estrella Morada Bar de Tapas. Just up the road from Porth, you will find The Pantry, a local deli that makes fresh salads and sandwiches. Ice cream vans are also a familiar sight during the summer months.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome on Porth Beach most of the year. There are restrictions between 10am and 6pm from 1 July to 31 August.

Accessibility

Porth Beach has level access. Toilets are located near the beach, and RNLI lifeguards are on duty between 10am and 6pm in peak months.
