This two-storey former fisherman's cottage is built on the old sea wall of Porth Beach on the rugged North Cornwall coast, giving couples and families a front-row seat to one of Cornwall's most charming bays. Just 20 metres from the sand, the cottage looks out over the water from almost every room and has plenty of original character alongside contemporary furnishings. Porth is a large west-facing sandy beach sheltered by headlands on either side, where streams, rock pools, and caves beg to be explored, whilst a sweep of sand provides ample terrain for sandcastle building.
Inside, the living room overlooks the beach and sea, with a comfortable sofa and chairs, a TV with Freeview and an open fire for cosy evenings in. The dining area has an oak dining table and chairs framed by the bay beyond, while the well-stocked kitchen is close at hand. Upstairs, a sun porch catches the evening light across the water – a fine spot to watch the sun go down. The king-size bedroom has chairs in the bay window for taking in the coast, and a small twin bedroom lies beyond – note that both the twin bedroom and family bathroom (with shower over bath) are accessed through the double bedroom. Outside, a small furnished courtyard opens onto the beach, and there is private parking for one car.
A narrow wooden footbridge leads across to Porth Island – watch at mid-tide, particularly on windy days, as the blowhole shoots rainbow sprays of water. Lusty Glaze Beach is a short 1-mile walk along the coast path, and for the more energetic, there is a 5-mile beach walk all the way to Watergate Bay at low tide. Cafes, restaurants, and a pub are right next to the beach, serving everything from ice cream to pizza.
