Mawgan Porth is a beach that gets it right. Just far enough out of Newquay to avoid the busy streets, yet near enough to still benefit from the same rugged North Cornwall coastline, Mawgan Porth has a curve of yellow sand, foamy blue water, and just the right-sized handful of tasty eateries. 

Little feet splash about in the trickling river and leave tiny footprints on the sand, perhaps joined by paw prints (as the beach is dog friendly all year round).

The beachfront street is dotted with shops and cafes, alongside the activity centre, King Surf. Try your hand at mastering the waves or let off steam at the seasonal crazy golf and pitch and putt course, based near a historic Iron Age site. 

If you fancy stretching your legs, take a steady amble up the South West Coast Path towards neighbouring Watergate Bay (where we also have properties) or Bedruthan Steps, where you can soak up spectacular panoramas.

Sitting seafront, peel the shells of a garlicky lobster at Catch Seafood Bar & Grill, or tuck into classic scampi and chips at The Merrymoor Inn. Hungry stomachs will be satisfied at The Travellers Rest, the quintessential village inn, which offers a proper roast dinner every day beside an open log fire in the winter. 

Head around the corner to Watergate Bay, where you’ll find fine dining at Emily Scott Food or beach-themed cocktails at The Beach Hut. 

Can I bring my dog? 

Mawgan Porth welcomes dogs all year round. Whether the tide is in or out, there’s always plenty of room for your dog to run, play, and make new friends.

Accessibility 

Parking is available next to the beach, with level access onto the sand. Opposite the beach, you’ll find public toilet facilities. RNLI lifeguards are on duty on the beach from April to September. Newquay Airport is just 7 miles away, making Mawgan Porth a perfect getaway destination.
