CORNWALL HOLIDAYS IN AUGUST

Get out and about in Cornwall this August. This is the prime time for a beach holiday, with the ocean at its warmest and the daily temperatures at their highest. Cornwall is made for summer days like these, spent lazing on shingle shores, leisurely dipping in ocean pools and drinking sundowners in the evening heat. Here’s our top things to do this August.

National Trust Day Out

With their exotic gardens, ancient houses and mining history, encircled by a much loved coastline, you’ll find plenty to see and do in August at Cornwall’s National Trust locations. The National Trust have an abundance of estates, gardens and protected areas of land, all rich in cultural heritage and natural Cornish beauty. Pack a picnic and head out to one of the locations for a summer’s day well spent. Try Lanhydrock HouseBedruthan StepsKynance Cove and Trerice House, just to name a few.

Beach days

With over 300 beaches accessible by foot, there are plenty of options when choosing which Cornish beach to explore. Whether you are looking for a hidden cove, a beach backed by white sanded dunes or a bay mapped out with rock pools and streams for the little ones, Cornwall has something for everyone. Walk miles of golden sand at Hayle, watch sailboats and cruise liners cross the horizon at Falmouth or soak up the rays by the tropical waters of Carbis Bay. And with the ocean temperatures reaching their peak in August, there’s no better time of year for a dip.

Surf’s up

Watch the pros from the shoreline or give it a go yourself with one of Cornwall’s many watersports schools. Hear the thud of your heart as you dive under the water and feel the adrenalin rush as you stand up on your surfboard for the first time- there’s no feeling like it. Watergate Bay’s Extreme Academy offers surfing, kitesurfing and SUP lessons and hire among others. Or try King Surf at Mawgan Porth, St Ives Surf School on Porthmeor Beach, Newquay Activity Centre and Sennen Surfing Centre.

Catch a sunset

Some of the most striking sunsets can be seen in August. The scarlet sun sinks into the horizon late in the day, giving you hours of evening sunshine to enjoy whilst you dine, drink and spend time with loved ones. To catch the best sunsets, head to the north coast. Try Fistral Beach, where you can watch the sky set alight as you enjoy a chilled pint at the Beach Bar, or Watergate Bay, where surfers ride waves which glow amber in the late evening light.
