The location, just moments from Wales' best surfing beach.

The Details

Location

71 The Rest is a light filled and contemporary top floor penthouse apartment. The apartment is part of a newly restored Victorian listed building and complex set in its own grounds. It sits proudly in an area of outstanding natural beauty, just meters from the beach and surrounded by beautiful far-reaching ocean and countryside views.

This retreat is a haven for watersport enthusiasts and beachcombers alike. The sweeping coastline is home to the swirling seas of Rest Bay, one of the most consistent surfing beaches in South Wales. The blue flag awarded beach is popular all year round, attracting surfers, kite surfers, kayakers and open water swimmers. With the excellent Porthcawl Surf School on your doorstep, you can catch some waves on a lesson or hire equipment and go it alone. Try your hand at surfing, stand up paddleboarding or bodyboarding with the support of fully qualified instructors and use of the highest quality kit. At the centre you can also pick from their fleet of mountain bikes, e-bikes, California cruisers and more, and join one of the scenic bike tours in the area.

Adjacent to The Rest is The Royal Porthcawl Golf Club. This world-renowned links course runs parallel with the Heritage coastal path. This path leads you on a short walk to Pink Bay with its impressive pink marble-effect pebbly bank leading down onto flat sand edged by a rocky shoreline. Venturing further west to Sker Bay and Kenfig Nature Reserve allows for plenty of bird watching and always a chance, if you’re lucky, of spotting a seal or dolphin. You may even find the rare Fen Orchid!

Porthcawl has something for everyone. Days can be spent thrill seeking in the surf, exploring marine life in hidden rockpools, golfing at the world renowned Royal Porthcawl Golf Club or meandering along the ‘7 bays’ of Porthcawl. Furthermore, the delights of the nearby town beckon you to enjoy the cosmopolitan selection of eateries and cafes, with the recently renovated harbourside restaurants and bars. The classic seaside spirit threads throughout the town, from its traditional seafront promenade with the vibrant 1920s Pavilion Theatre, to its independent stores and weekly farmers market. Try an ice cream from a classic Italian parlour or tuck into fish and chips with a view of the bobbing boats in the iconic marina.

Rest Bay sits midway between Cardiff and Swansea, perfectly connecting this beachside haven to the bustle of the outside world and is easily accessible from junction 37 of the M4.
