The thump of your heartbeat in the crashing surf, the taste of fried fish and juicy burgers, the smell of sea salt which has flecked your sun-kissed skin, the sight of people dotted about, smiling and laughing, in and out of the topaz blue sea. Its all part and parcel of Watergate Bay, the adrenalin junkie’s paradise embodying the spirit of the North Cornwall coast.
Scarlet sunsets set the sky alight as you dine in the swanky beachfront eateries or sip hot chocolate on the sand. Watergate’s two miles of sand are popular with families, couples and dogs alongside surfers and thrill seekers. Stride out on a long ramble or short jaunt along the coast path, with nearby walks to Newquay’s 7 bays or Mawgan Porth.
Plunge into watersports lessons from the Extreme Academy, where you can try your hand at surfing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and kite surfing. The beach is exposed to incoming swell from the Atlantic, making it an excellent place for water activities of all kinds.
The lively atmosphere at Watergate is as constant as the moon-driven tides. Time your visit to align with one of the vibrant music festivals or surf competitions which run throughout the year.
Watergate Bay is home to some of Cornwall’s best restaurants. Beachside you’ll find The Beach Hut, a cool restaurant serving fresh seafood, steaks and their famous Extreme Hot Chocolate. The Living Space at Watergate Bay Hotel is open to all, just grab a seat and enjoy the view with a cocktail in hand. You’ll also find Zacry’s, offering big bold American-inspired flavours with a Cornish twist.
Watergate Bay loves dogs, and dogs love Watergate Bay; the beach is dog friendly all year round. With two miles of sandy beach to run on and sea caves to explore, we are certain your dog will have a great time here.
The beach has level access via a slip lane onto the sand. There are two pay and display car parks nearby plus an overflow car park on the cliffs during the summer months. Toilets are located next to the car park. RNLI Lifeguards are on duty between 10am and 6pm throughout the summer months.
Newquay airport is close by, making Watergate Bay the perfect destination for a last-minute holiday.
