The Watchtower is a sumptous, light-filled end of terrace retreat directly on the Widemouth Bay shoreline. Part of a brand-new development, The Lookout, The Watchtower is one of five innovative eco-homes directly on the Widemouth Bay coastline. Each Lookout retreat is designed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding rural environment, harmonising with the natural ebb and flow of the coastline. With planted grass roofs, individual curved patio areas planted with wildflowers, and eco features such as air source heat pumps, these retreats offer sustainable holidaying in one of Cornwall’s most untouched stretches of coast.
Each retreat is unique, from the décor to the features. The Watchtower welcomes you in with warm, naturally inspired decor, cool ocean blue hues throughout, a sunset-view balcony and outdoor dining space, and sea views directly infront.At a glance:
- The Watchtower is so close to the beach that you can jump from bed to board, walking barefoot in your wetsuit to the sand for a morning surf. Check the swell without even leaving your retreat, with sea views from almost every room.
- The location couldn’t be any better. You’ll be staying directly on the beach, where you can pop back during a day in the waves to grab lunch from the kitchen. You’re seconds from great local facilities, including a surf hire directly next door and a beach café for brunching, lunching and coffee fixes all day long. Plus, direct access to the coast path seconds from your front door means you can walk for miles.

The area:
Widemouth Bay is a long unspoilt stretch of sandy beach and craggy cliffs that is all about a sense of space, a 'big sky' feel and an endless horizon. In Cornwall's northern corner near the coastal town of Bude, this stretch of coastline is known for its great surf and watersports opportunities. With lifeguard cover throughout the summer season, Widemouth is a great spot for beginners and more seasoned surfers alike. The bay has a relaxed vibe, with a handful of pubs and cafes and friendly locals. It’s also the dream destination for those wanting to get away from it all, with plenty of rural beauty, countryside and coast path for miles either side.
Less than 3 miles away, Bude has plenty of restaurants and a wide range of shops, from essential supermarkets to surf and lifestyle stores. If you're looking for some adrenaline-fuelled fun, there are all kinds of activities on offer nearby, including coasteering, surf, windsurf and kitesurf lessons, stand up paddleboarding, bike hire, canoeing and kayaking. -
The Property
Inside:
- A four bedroomed, four bathroomed retreat with spacious interiors and plenty of natural light.
- The property is over 2 floors however the bedroom levels are slightly staggered with several steps down to the bedrooms.
- Upstairs open plan living space with doors leading out to the sea view balcony.
- Living area with two sofas, two armchairs with footstools, coffee table, TV, side tables and lamps, the perfect place for relaxing indoors with the sea still in your eyeline.
- Large central natural wood dining table, benches and chairs seating eight, with feature hanging lights.
- Fully equipped kitchen with luxury appliances and features for an elevated cooking experience should you choose to dine at home.
- Kitchen includes double oven, induction hob, Nespresso coffee machine and cafetiere, Quooker hot water tap, wine fridge, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, and central island with three wooden bar stools.
- Rear facing windows where you can see the grass roofs of the retreat and extra light can come in.
- Colourful coastal artwork, cosy cushions and throws, and plenty of houseplants create a homely yet beach-chic feel.

Sleeping:
- Two king size bedrooms on the upper level ground floor at the rear of the property, with doors opening out onto the patio with sea views.

- Master bedroom with a king size bed, hanging rail, occasional chair, two bedside tables, and ensuite with bath and separate walk-in shower.
- Second bedroom featuring a king size bed, two bedside tables, hanging rail, pouffe and ensuite.
- Two bedrooms on the ground floor at the front of the property.
- Third bedroom with 3 foot zip and link beds (can be made into two singles), two bedside tables and ensuite.
- Fourth bedroom with a triple bunk bed including a double base and 3 foot single on top, bean bags, bedside tables and ensuite.
- All rooms feature an ensuite, each with unique decorative tiles. Ensuites feature walk-in rainfall shower, WC, basin, mirror and heated towel rail (bath in the master).
Outside:
- Balcony with uninterrupted sea views.
- Architecturally designed curved patio which blends with the surrounding greenery and looks towards the ocean.

“My friends and i (7 altogether ) had the most wonderful stay at the watchtower. It was spacious and fully equipped, everything you needed was there. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't as kind to us, but the watchtower made it more bearable. But the day before we left the weather decided to play ball and that's when the accommodation really showed its best side! A full sunny position made the holiday complete. What a stunning place! We will definitely be returning ”
