Discover the pounding surf at Porthtowan
Impressive cliffs, stunning coastline, and a long golden beach backed by dunes – discover self-catering holiday cottages in Porthtowan, a designated national landscape.
Trace the dramatic coastline and mining heritage from St Agnes, and you’ll end up in Porthtowan. Its beach is the big draw – one of Cornwall’s most popular surfing spots backed by large dunes and dramatic cliffs. Low tide exposes a long expanse of sand, which you can walk along to Chapel Porth, the next equally stunning beach managed by the National Trust. Holidays in Porthtowan offer the true Cornish experience, not a dull moment in sight.
The coastal path between the two – and further along to St Agnes (where we also have a wonderful selection of luxury properties) – takes in some of the county’s best remains of its rich mining heritage, with stunning views out to sea. This is a wild part of the coast, with RNLI lifeguards patrolling the beach from May to September and other peak times.
Near our Porthtowan cottages, there are several family-suited restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, surf equipment hire, and a children’s play park – if they ever get bored of cricket on the beach.
