Perched high on the north Cornish clifftops overlooking Portreath Beach, this warm and welcoming beach house is where families find sanctuary – bask in the sun on the chequerboard terrace with views of the ocean and Gull Rock, or take shelter from stormy weather in the heated indoor swimming pool. Lovingly adorned with mid-century furnishings and family heirlooms, the home carries a nostalgic charm throughout, with wooden features handcrafted by the owner's late father, a highly skilled carpenter with a passion for wooden boat building. The simple joy of classic beach days comes easily at this family-friendly cove, often overlooked by visitors heading to neighbouring beaches – bodyboarding in the waves, a leisurely dip in the tidal pool, shell hunting along the shoreline, or lazy naps on the sand.
Inside, the geothermal-heated pool room features loungers, a handcrafted wooden decorative boat, lounge seating, a wet room, and doors to an outdoor terrace. A wraparound conservatory glows in soft morning light and frames hazy sunsets – curl up with a book as the tides draw in and out below. The open-plan living and dining room has calming ocean views, two sofas, a Smart TV, dining table seating eight, and bi-folding doors to the patio. The kitchen includes a double gas oven, gas hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, and coffee machine, with a pass-through window to the living space. Geothermal underfloor heating keeps the home cosy. Four bedrooms – three king-size and one twin – sleep up to eight, with sea views from three rooms. Two open onto a shared balcony with table and chairs, and three have ensuite bathrooms. A family bathroom with bath and shower and a ground-floor WC complete the layout. A utility room provides a washing machine, tumble dryer, and ironing facilities, and a travel cot and highchair are available. Outside, the chequerboard terrace is furnished with armchairs and a coffee table, while a second terrace by the pool room has rattan sofas – a quieter spot for a post-swim drink. Parking is available for two medium-sized cars, with additional space in the main beach car park.
