Explore history set amidst picture-book scenery

Marazion is a pebbly beach with a gentle, lapping tide that recedes out to the famous St Michael’s Mount. This tiny island appears to have been lifted straight out of a fairy tale, with a perfect little crescent harbour, an ancient castle, a cobbled causeway that appears and disappears twice daily, and steep, wooded slopes.

Getting to St Michael’s Mount is almost as much fun as exploring the island itself. When the tide is out, the causeway is exposed, and it’s a 10-minute walk over the chunky, uneven cobbles to the harbour.

When the island is cut off by the tide, you can catch one of the small boats that drift between the rocky piers on Marazion Beach and the harbour on the Mount. These run throughout the day in spring and summer, but much less frequently at other times.

Nearby, you can visit the fishing village of Mousehole (where we also have a portfolio of luxury properties), which is as picturesque in summer as it is in winter, coming to life during the famous Christmas lights display, best enjoyed with a mulled wine in hand.

All year round, there’s plenty to explore in the surrounding South West Cornwall. Penzance’s promenade, lido, and shops are a short drive away, where you can enjoy the art deco Jubilee Pool. Or pack a picnic blanket, juice, and scones to enjoy at the iconic Minack Theatre before sunning yourself on Porthcurno Beach.

The details

Food and drink

Marazion has a great selection of eateries for all appetites and tastes, from deli-style cafes such as The Copper Spoon to contemporary pub dining at The Cutty Sark. Or, for a quick bite on the beach, grab a pasty from Philp’s and head to the sand.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are not allowed on Marazion Beach during July and August, between the hours of 10am and 6pm, when a seasonal dog ban is in place. The nearby Long Rock Beach is dog friendly all year round and provides a long stretch of shingly beach, perfect for dog walks.

Accessibility

There’s easy, level access to the beach from the main car park. There’s also a ramp leading down to the beach near the western car park. Sand chairs are available from St Michael’s Mount.
