The Tower is a Grade II special listed duplex apartment occupying the top two floors of Acton Castle, a striking 1775 country house perched on the cliffs above Mount's Bay in West Cornwall – perfect for families or groups of friends looking to combine coastal living with almost 250 years of history. Designed by John Wood the Younger, the architect behind Bath's Royal Crescent, the castle sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by secluded rocky coves and sweeping sea views towards St Michael's Mount and the Lizard Peninsula. With three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a private rooftop terrace offering 360-degree views, there is space and grandeur in equal measure.
The open-plan living area is split between an adults' snug furnished with two leather chesterfield sofas – one doubling as a sofa bed – and a chesterfield tub chair, and a spacious teens' zone with an oversized corner sofa, 54-inch Smart TV with Netflix, Xbox 360, and Bluetooth speaker. A door here opens directly onto the rooftop terrace. A board games corner with a chabudai table and floor cushions rounds things out. The dining room seats ten at a long wood table, with picture-frame windows framing rural and coastal views, natural stone floors, and underfloor heating. The kitchen sits beneath high beamed ceilings and features an island and Nespresso coffee machine. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a super-king bed, en-suite wet room with walk-in rainfall shower, and coastal views across Mount's Bay. A second super-king bedroom overlooks the gardens and out to sea, with an en-suite bath and overhead shower. The third bedroom, a king, looks out over Mount's Bay and has a separate shower room – note that this room has a saniflo toilet, so care is needed to avoid blockages. Outside, the rooftop terrace is furnished with a large dining table, chairs, and two sun loungers overlooking the communal gardens and Mount's Bay towards St Michael's Mount. The grounds include well-kept lawns, sub-tropical planting, and an ornamental fish pond. Private parking is available for three cars, and a footpath leads directly from the castle to the beach and coastal path, around 200 metres away.
Climb the stile at the bottom of the garden and you are on the South West Coast Path. Head left for a twenty-minute shoreline walk to Prussia Cove, passing rugged Cudden Point and the hidden Piskies Cove along the way. Head right and you reach Perranuthnoe, a beachside village with the Victoria Inn gastropub and a sea-facing cafe – the crab sandwich comes recommended. Praa Sands, a short drive away, is a lifeguarded beach with a proper seaside buzz, well suited to a day in the waves. Further along the coast, Marazion offers access to St Michael's Mount and sandy beaches, while Ben's Cornish Kitchen is a popular restaurant nearby. For something more active, Ocean High offers kitesurfing and stand-up paddleboarding along this stretch of coast.
