Water sports and restaurants combine with a spectacular sunset backdrop

The beat of your heart in the surf, the taste of fried fish and juicy burgers, the smell of sea salt on your skin, the sight of people dotted about, smiling and laughing, in and out of the topaz blue sea. It’s all part and parcel of staying in one of our holiday cottages in Watergate Bay, the adrenaline junkie’s paradise – embodying the spirit of the North Cornwall coast.

Scarlet sunsets set the sky alight as you dine in the swanky beachfront eateries or sip hot chocolate on the sand. Watergate’s 2 miles of sand are popular with families, couples, and dogs, alongside surfers and thrill seekers. Stride out from one of our Watergate Bay cottages on a long ramble or short jaunt along the coast path, with nearby walks to Newquay’s Seven Bays or Mawgan Porth.

Plunge into water sports lessons from the Extreme Academy, where you can try your hand at surfing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and kite surfing. The beach is exposed to incoming swell from the Atlantic, making it an excellent place for water activities of all kinds.

The lively atmosphere at Watergate is as constant as the tides. Vibrant music festivals and surf competitions run throughout the year.

Food and drink

Watergate Bay is home to some of Cornwall’s best restaurants. Beachside, you’ll find The Beach Hut, a cool restaurant serving fresh seafood, steaks, and their famous Extreme Hot Chocolate. The Living Space at Watergate Bay Hotel is open to all; just grab a seat and enjoy the view with a cocktail in hand. You’ll also find Zacry’s, offering big, bold American-inspired flavours with a Cornish twist.

Can I bring my dog?

Watergate Bay loves dogs, and dogs love Watergate Bay; the beach is dog-friendly all year round. With 2 miles of sandy beach to run on and sea caves to explore, we are certain your dog will have a great time here.

Accessibility

The beach has level access via a slip lane onto the sand. There are two pay-and-display car parks nearby, plus an overflow car park on the cliffs during the summer months. WCs are located next to the car park. RNLI Lifeguards are on duty between 10am and 6pm throughout the summer months.

Newquay Airport is within 3 miles, making Watergate Bay the perfect destination.
