Summerleaze: a coastal soundscape
As part of our Your Beach. Found series, we’re working with local creatives to share exclusive work inspired by Cornwall’s diverse coastline – revealing new perspectives from the sand, sky and beneath the waves.
For this week’s Summerleaze Beach takeover, Bude-based filmmaker Tim Laing invites us to pause, listen and immerse ourselves in the rhythms of his local shoreline. Through a soundscape paired with visual moments on the beach, his short film captures the essence of a beach day here.

We catch up with Tim down on the sand, who tells us more about his creative process and life as a Bude local.
“I’ve been making films for about five years now,” Tim explains. “I think companies come to me to tell their stories – my work is quite subtle, and I want it to show things in the best light without over-complicating it. What I love most is being out and about, meeting people, and discovering places I might never have otherwise.”
At Summerleaze, discovery comes easily. The beach shifts with the seasons, its moods as changeable as the tides.
“I love how different it can be,” says Tim. “In winter it can be misty, quiet, and you hardly see another soul. But in summer it’s full of garish colours – the tents, the windbreaks, the surfboards. I love both sides of that. This film is all about showing a day here, and the contrast.”
For Tim, Summerleaze is more than just a filming location – it’s a place of connection.
“I’m down here with my daughter three or four times a week in summer. She loves the rockpools and the little pools that emerge at low tide. She’ll swim around in them for ages. It’s such a great beach for children – and the surf is so accessible. Even when there’s no swell, you’ll always see people just bobbing around, enjoying the sea.”
