The Details

  • Location

    Where is it?

Situated between Newquay and Watergate Bay on the rugged North Cornwall coast, Porth is a large, west-facing sandy beach, sheltered by headlands on either side and with a cafe, restaurant and pub right next to the beach.

When children draw a seaside scene, they draw Porth. Streams, rockpools and caves beg to be explored, whilst a sweep of beach provides ample terrain for sandcastle building and sand-fairy making. Families, adventurers and explorers of all ages will lose hour after happy hour here.

A narrow wooden footbridge leads to Porth Island, a headland full of history. Watch in awe at mid tide, particularly on windy days, as the blow hole shoots rainbow sprays of water. Embrace the theatre of Porth Island any time of day or all year round, just wrap up warm and bring a camera to capture dramatic sunrises and storms alike.

Back down on the beach, melted strawberry ice cream drips down sides of candy cones and sizzling tapas is served at Porth's beachside eateries. Once you've soaked up the Porth scene, try heading towards Newquay's bays, up the coast path to Whipsiderry and Watergate, or towards the rolling cliffs of Mawgan Porth and Bedruthan Steps.

"We love the cottage and the location. The cottage has had a freshen up with new windows and the door in the little room, off the lounge, that gives you a panoramic view of Porth beach. Great for the dog and a excellent base to visit all our favourite places in Cornwall. Would highly recommend!"

"We had a lovely time at Sea Wall Cottage, Porth. The uninterrupted beach views from every room are amazing, the authentic furnishings and decor, warm and welcoming. We had some lovely clear days and loved watching the wild swimmers, walkers and dogs on the beach. We walked on Porth Island and the paths to nearby St Columb Minor and into Newquay. Porth is such a magic place for us as we spent so many happy childhood days here."

"We absolutely loved this property. The views are superb and it was very cosy in December. The bed was very comfy, all the white bed linen and towels very clean. The kitchen is very well equipped. Being able to go walking on a beach outside your window was so great and we loved the walks up over the cove cliffs. This is a great quiet base for exploring Cornwall. We would definitely book this property again. "

"We felt very lucky to be staying at Sea Wall Cottage - built into the sea wall you could not be any closer to the beach, and the property was so clean and well presented. We loved both Porth beach and Whipsiderry next door. Stunning sunsets too! Thank you Beach Retreats."
A Gulliver, August 2020
"Seawall cottage is a real home from home to us,with the added bonus of the beach as our garden. The property is warm and cosy and very clean. Ideal for families with young kids or couples. We actually take along our seventy nine year old mum who just loves to watch the people passing the time on the beach from the sun porch, which gives you a great panoramic view, while we can go off and take a cliff walk or explore the coast on foot without feeling guilty about leaving her. Last but not least it's great to take the dog, who can sniff around the secure courtyard, allowing you to relax and have a drink watching the sunset,or take long walks with you on the beach and meet other fury friends to play with. It's a ten out of ten for us. "
