Porthtowan is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and its Blue Flag awarded beach is its big draw – one of Cornwall’s most popular surfing spots backed by large dunes and dramatic cliffs. Low tide exposes a long expanse of which you can walk along to Chapel Porth, the next equally as stunning beach managed by the National Trust.
The coastal path between the two – and further along to St Agnes – takes in some of the county’s best remains of its rich mining heritage with stunning views out to sea. This is a wild part of the coast with RNLI lifeguards patrolling the beach from May to September and other peak times.
