  • The surroundings

Watergate Lodge sits at the heart of Cornwall’s coastal spectrum, nestled between the countryside’s deep green fields and coastline’s stretching blue ocean. Head through planted gardens down a meandering path to Watergate Bay’s rolling sand in moments.

The beat of your heart in the surf, the taste of fresh fish, woodfired pizza and irresistible local ice cream to refuel before returning to the waves, the salt in the air and on your skin, all day long. It's all part of the Watergate Bay experience, an adrenalin seeker’s paradise and an energised shot of Cornish north coast spirit.

Scarlet sunsets light the sky as you eat fresh local produce prepared with flair in the shoreside restaurants, or sip warming hot chocolate from a cliff top lookout after a day on the sand. Watergate's two miles of beach are popular with families, couples and dogs alongside surfers and water lovers. Strike out along the coast path, with nearby walks to Newquay's seven bays or Mawgan Porth.

Plunge into water sports lessons with Wavehunters, where you can try your hand at surfing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and kite surfing. The beach is exposed to incoming swell from the Atlantic, making it an excellent place for water activities of all kinds.

The lively atmosphere at Watergate is as constant as the tide, with vibrant music festivals and surf competitions running throughout the year.

"Watergate Lodge is a fantastic house, comfortable, clean and plenty of space for a large group. Great for walking to the beach - especially pleasant going through Whitehouse grounds and not needing to walk on the road."

"Our third stay at Watergate Lodge with a fourth stay booked for next Easter. Amazing place. We just love this property."

"We had a lovely Christmas in this fabulous house. It's beautifully furnished, very well-equipped and extremely comfortable. Great location too. The beach was very accessible."

"Fantastic house a short walk from the beach. The property accepted our dog who is the most important member of our family! Just perfect for what we wanted. "

"We had a wonderful holiday in Watergate Lodge, a super architect-designed property with top of the range fixtures and fittings and audio and lighting systems to die for. Situated a short 400m walk from the bustling village centre through landscaped, private gardens it provides a perfect balance of convenient access to the beach while being totally peaceful on the roof terrace and in the garden."

"While Cornwall is indeed glorious, it was most definitely the house that made our holiday so perfect. The thoughtful design throughout was clearly apparent making it such a sociable space yet also affording people the opportunity to have a little quiet time in one of the many areas."
