AN OLD FISHING PORT AND ON CORNWALL’S SOUTH COAST WITH CHARACTER AND CHARM IN ABUNDANCE.

A fishing port abundant in character, Charlestown is the last open Georgian working 18th century harbour. As seen in the BBC Poldark series, the village embodies the essence of Cornish fishing life. Let classic tall ships and pebbly beaches dotted with caves set you daydreaming as you wander the streets, freshly caught crab sandwich in hand (just watch out for seagulls!).

Easy access to the South West Cost Path means you can strike a leisurely course out and find your way to neighbouring bays, including Carlyon, Pentewan and Porthpean. For a day out, the world-famous Eden Project and the captivating Lost Garden of Heligan are just a short drive away, where horticulture, imagination and the county’s unique spirit meet.

THE DETAILS

FOOD AND DRINK

Charlestown has a wonderful collection of places to eat and drink, our favourite being The Longstore which serves up ridiculously good seafood and steaks, delicious cocktails and even has its own wine store and bar below it. Other fantastic places to eat and drink are The Boathouse, Wreckers and The Pier House Restaurant.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

There is an all year round dog ban in place on Charlestown beach. However there are plenty of walks nearby via the South West Coast Path and all year round dog friendly beaches at Vault Beach, Porthluney Beach and Hemmick Beach. Nearby restaurants and attractions are often dog-friendly.

ACCESSIBILITY

There is a gently slope down to the beach on the southern side of the harbour, with a level car park near the harbour. The toilets are also situated here.
