The surroundings
Gwynver Beach House sits in the far South West of Cornwall, directly above the rugged Gwynver Beach and just along the coast path from Sennen Cove. Whether you're heading down for a morning swim, an afternoon surf, or an evening stroll, the beach is always just steps away.
Dog friendly year-round and renowned as one of the best surfing beaches in the country, Gwynver Beach is a secluded sandy beach, joining with Sennen Cove at low tide to form Whitesands Bay. Reached via a short path and down the steps directly opposite Gwynver Beach House, this little-known beach is never too crowded, yet still benefits from the security of lifeguard cover between May and September. Walk here from Gwynver Beach House in just a few minutes and enjoy all-day access to the sand. From here, you can hike the beautiful stretch of coast path to Sennen Cove, passing surfers, dolphins and panoramic vistas.
Classically Cornish in landscape, with a magical ‘edge of the world’ feel, the endless white sands and turquoise waters of Sennen Cove gives the area a distinctly Mediterranean flavour. A paradise for surfers, sun-worshipers and families, Sennen Cove has been voted as one of Britain's best blue flag beaches by Condé Nast Traveller. If you're looking for a corner of Cornwall far from the hectic pace of modern life, then Sennen Cove is where you'll find it.
Here, it's all about the simple things: a morning sea dip, a long coast path walk, a pub lunch with a sea view. Order in handline caught fish and seafood from Sennen Boathouse Stores and pick up on your arrival. Sennen Surfing Centre and Smart’s Surf School are great choices for individual and group lessons, suited to both beginner surfers and the more advanced.
The magnificent West Cornwall coastline offers a heavenly experience for walkers. Seasoned and casual hikers will relish direct access to the South West Coast Path, voted the best coastal path in the country. Set off south from Gwynver to Land's End via Sennen Cove; or head north via Cot Valley, to the historic tin mining landscape at Cape Cornwall. Alternatively, venture inland to Carn Euny, one of the best-preserved ancient villages in the South West.
Nearby, discover the Cornish icons of the Minack Theatre and St Michael's Mount. St Ives is a short drive away, with the famous Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, great shopping and lively cafe and restaurant culture. Even closer is Mousehole, with its rich fishing history and Michelin recommended restaurants.
