This eco-chic clifftop holiday home sits just moments from the shoreline of Watergate Bay, offering families and couples a front-row seat to the North Cornwall coast. The two miles of sand draw surfers, thrill seekers and dog walkers alike, while scarlet sunsets set the sky alight over the bay. With a travel cot and high chair available, it suits young families as well as couples seeking a coastal escape.

Inside, reverse-style accommodation places the open-plan living area on the first floor to make the most of panoramic views across the bay and out to sea. A barrel-rolled ceiling, virtual flame fireplace, 47" TV, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Blu-ray player keep everyone entertained, while full-width sliding glass doors open onto a generous balcony furnished with a table, chairs and sun loungers. The fully equipped kitchen includes a Nespresso machine, and ecologically sustainable features – sedum roofs, air source heat pumps and brise soleil temperature control – keep the space comfortable alongside underfloor heating throughout. Downstairs, the master bedroom has a super-king bed, 32" TV and en-suite bathroom with a free-standing double-ended bath and separate shower. A second bedroom offers a zip-and-link bed configurable as twins or a super-king, plus a single pull-out truckle bed and its own en-suite shower room. Outside, a ground-floor patio and a store room with wetsuit rack and surf shower complete the picture, with designated parking for one car and electric vehicle charge points available in the car park.

Watergate Bay is the adrenalin junkie's paradise. Plunge into watersports lessons where you can try your hand at surfing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and kite surfing – the beach is exposed to incoming Atlantic swell, making it an excellent spot for all of the above. Stride out along the coast path towards Newquay's seven bays or Mawgan Porth, or settle into one of the beachfront eateries as the sun dips below the horizon. Vibrant music festivals and surf competitions run throughout the year, keeping the atmosphere as lively as the tides.
