This four-bedroomed grass-roofed eco-retreat sits just moments from the shorefront of Watergate Bay on the North Cornwall coast – an adrenalin junkie's paradise that embodies the spirit of the wild Atlantic. Designed by Interior Design Masters winner Banjo Beale, the interiors blend vintage and reclaimed furniture with natural textures and recycled fabrics, creating a warm, comfortable and light-filled space – a "little ray of sunshine" inspired by craggy clay cliffs, wildflowers and sandy beaches. With four bedrooms, it suits families, couples and groups – picture children, grandchildren and dogs reuniting, sharing seafood feasts at long tables and reading in pillowy armchairs.
Inside, the large open-plan living, dining and kitchen area features a barrel-rolled ceiling and full-width sliding glass doors opening onto a generous first-floor veranda with views across the valley and headland. The living space has a beach house feel, with charred timber cladding drawing the eye back out to the view, a velvet corner sofa, and sea-themed photography and illustrations on the walls. The kitchen features rough-sawn oak cupboard doors with antique brass handles, made by a local carpenter. Two bedrooms have super-king beds with en-suite bathrooms featuring walk-in rainfall showers and freestanding baths, while two further double or twin rooms share a large Jack and Jill bathroom. A separate laundry room, underfloor heating throughout, and a ground-floor store room with wetsuit rack and surf shower round out the practical side. Outside, a ground-floor patio provides a private spot to relax, and designated parking for two cars includes electric vehicle charge points.
Scarlet sunsets set the sky alight over Watergate Bay's two miles of sand, popular with surfers, families, couples and dogs. Watersports lessons cover surfing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and kite surfing in the Atlantic swell. The clifftop walk to Porth beach stretches around 2 miles, while Mawgan Porth lies a half-hour walk along the coast path in the opposite direction. Newquay and its selection of beaches, shops and restaurants is 2.5 miles away, and Bedruthan Steps are also within reach. Swanky beachfront eateries, vibrant music festivals and surf competitions keep the bay buzzing throughout the year.
