This large coastal house sits just metres from the sand at Porth, between Newquay (within 1 mile) and Watergate Bay (1.5 miles) on the rugged North Cornwall coast – a laid-back spot where families, adventurers and explorers of all ages will lose hour after happy hour. Porth is a west-facing sandy beach sheltered by headlands on either side, where streams, rockpools and caves beg to be explored whilst a sweep of sand provides ample terrain for sandcastle building and sand-fairy making.
The first-floor living room offers fantastic views of the beach and sea, with banquette seating, two comfortable sofas and a lounge chair arranged around the Smart TV and a wood burner for chilly evenings. Beautiful interiors feature embroidered cushions, local artwork, rattan furnishings and leafy plants. The open-plan dining room has a slate floor, large wooden table and hanging lamps, while the airy kitchen is fully equipped with a range-style oven among its highlights. Five bedrooms sleep guests across three king-size rooms, a twin and a cabin room with bunk beds – perfect for children. The ground floor king-size bedroom features a decorative wood burner set in a traditional open stone fireplace with a former bread oven and its own en-suite shower room. Three further bathrooms include a family bathroom with shower over the bath. A porch with wooden seating is handy for taking off boots after a long beach walk, and an enclosed patio at the rear has bistro seating. An enclosed slate courtyard sits at the front, and an outhouse provides a washing machine and tumble dryer. Private parking for two cars is available (note the 2-metre height restriction).
A narrow wooden footbridge leads to Porth Island, a headland full of history – watch in awe at mid tide, particularly on windy days, as the blow hole shoots rainbow sprays of water. Lusty Glaze Beach is a short walk along the coast path, and for the more energetic there is a beach walk all the way to Watergate Bay at low tide. Head towards the rolling cliffs of Mawgan Porth, or explore Newquay's bays. Beachside cafes and a pub sit close to the sand, serving everything from ice cream to pizza.
