MAWGAN PORTH
Where is Mawgan Porth?
On the North Cornwall coast, with Padstow a few miles to the east and Watergate Bay a couple of miles to the west. The airport is just up the road which makes Mawgan Porth a combination of escapism and convenience for exploring the area.
What’s there?
Just enough – a pub, bistro, coffee shop, convenience store, surf shop and deli. So it’s not over-commercialised but you can buy all the essential supplies for a holiday. This small but perfectly form gaggle of shops is nestled around the beach.
Which brings us on to the beach, which contains all the ingredients – flanked by sand dunes and cliffs, rock pools and the rolling surf. No wonder The Times named it one of the best beaches in Britain.
It’s a perfect example of North Cornwall coastline – towering cliffs framing the golden sands and blue sea.
Will my kids like it?
Yes for the reasons above. Find sea life in the rockpools, play in the surf, explore caves and build a sand castle. There’s even a seasonal mini-golf course and pitch and putt.
Where can I walk the dog?
Mawgan Porth beach is one of the few in Cornwall where dogs are welcome all year round. Whether the tide is in or out, there’s plenty of room for exercise. Just remember to clean up afterwards…
Will I go hungry?
Mawgan Porth has a pub, fish and chip shop, bistro and convenience store so that’s all the boxes ticked. Or for that special occasion, drive the few miles to Watergate Bay for Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen or along to Padstow for Rick Stein’s restaurant and takeaway.
That’s all fine, I just need some facts:
- Parking – pay and display car parks which only get full on the sunniest of summer days.
- Food and Drink – a choice to suit your requirements in the centre of the village.
- Toilets – there are public toilets in the middle of the village across from the beach.
- Dog on a beach? – yes, all year round.
