Porth, Cornwall
The kind of beach kids dream of, Porth, on the north coast of Cornwall, has soft sand, rock pools galore, a stream flowing down to the shoreline and even an island with a wooden bridge across to it. Lifeguards patrol the beach from May to September, making it safe for swimming, surfing and body boarding and dogs are welcome October to Easter. The Extreme Academy, which is just a five minute drive away can offer a great range of adrenaline sports including surfing, kitesurfing, waveski, kite buggy, land board and mountain board, with special Extreme Days available so you can sample a range of activities. Equipment and wetsuit hire also available. The Mermaid Inn is a family friendly pub with a range of real ales and meals located right next to the beach but for a wider choice of places to eat, pop across to Watergate Bay, located just five minutes drive away, with the legendary Beach Hut, the unique experience of the Jamie Oliver inspired restaurant, Fifteen Cornwall as well as The Brasserie and Living Space at The Hotel & Extreme Academy, Watergate Bay. Newquay is just a five minutes drive from Porth with nearby Lewinnick Lodge nestled atop the cliffs of Pentire Headland with stunning views out to sea and an innovative menu with an emphasis on fresh fish dishes. Fistral Blu is a trendy café style restaurant for light bites and beach snacks at Fistral Beach. For local produce visit Trevilley Farm Shop which has an excellent range of vegetables, fruit and meats from their own land plus wine, cider, home made cakes and ready meals. Porth is just 2 miles from Newquay and less than an hour from the Eden Project. Children will love the Blue Reef Aquarium at Towan Beach, Newquay with its seahorse ranch.
